Lord of the Flies Opinion

I found Lord of the Flies had a good story line but reading it was bit confusing. At some parts like Simon's death I didn't quite understand how he died, I had reread the page a few times to understand. At the end of the book I was still a bit confused so I watched the newer version of the movie to see if things would clear up. No, it did not, it just made things even more confusing,so then I went back to reread the confusing parts which helped somewhat. The rest I asked a friend to clear it up for me. I like the older version of the movie it's more accurate then the newer version. I have to say Ralph is my favorite character. I like how he tries to keep things civilized but still remains a child and pretty much powerless in the situation.

Lord of the Flies Response

1. Individuals are basically evil and must constantly fight against their violent nature.
I disagree, I believe everyone are good, but they do have some evil inside them. It all depends on how they were raised, their environment, something dramatic that could have happened that could and would have triggered the evilness inside of them. In this situation people will constantly be filled with rage and anger and want to fight.Luckily there are so many programs to prevent the evilness to come out of them. There are so many charities, organizations, and fundraisers to help countries during natural disasters. This is one good thing people do.

2.Individuals will go along with any type of activity, no matter how violent, when pressured by their peers.
I agree, people are more likely to participate in activities they wouldn't do normally when they are more people. They could get caught up in the moment like the Vancouver riot that occurred right after the Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley cup. I also disagree, people are well prepared to know when the activity is getting to violent for them and they know they can`t handle it or simply don`t like the activity, they would take a step back.

3. The human race is destined to destroy itself.
I agree with this statement simply because there are these incredible machinery that with a push of a button could kill thousands possible millions of people due to a misunderstanding or disagreement. I also disagree, humans are powerful creatures, we have the ability to feed everyone on the plant, we have the ability to take away all of the weapons, bombs, machinery that could destroy thousands of people and we have the ability for all of us to work together to discover new ways to live and to move forward.

4. Rules and punishment are absolutely necessary if we are to maintain a civilized society.
I agree there should be a leader that would state the rules and then in force them no matter how small the group might be. They should get a routine going immediately.  If someone breaks the rule there should be a reasonable punishment for them. This would show everyone that if you break the rules this is the consequence that you will have to face. The leader should also remember not to make the rules so strict because other members might want to have some fun and explore and besides if the leader makes the rules so strict they may not follow. The punishment also shouldn't be so deadly because if it is the other members would probably leave and start there own little civilized area.

5.We are our worst enemy!
I absolutely agree. We are our worst enemy. We constantly put ourselves down, we criticize our bodies and intelligence. We compare ourselves to others and say that we are not good enough. We harm ourselves physically and emotionally. Emotionally, suicidal thoughts, anxiety and depression. Physically, starving ourselves, vomiting food back out and steroids. No matter how much love we receive, we can never be fully  happy until you are satisfies with yourself.

I Found A Macbeth Poem

In this poem, Macbeth is at the highest point in his reign. He is reassuring and convincing himself that his reign and him will not be compromised by repeating the prophecy that the witches gave him.

 King's Reassurance

I, King of Scotland, am immortal.
By the prophecy of the wicked trio,
I remain unscathed, indestructible.
There be no tree capable of charging my hold.
There be no man born not of woman.
There be no threat to my reign.
Ambition led me to the climax of power.
Yes, I have killed in cold blood,
but all in good favor,
for your King cannot die,
for man is surely born of woman,
and trees cannot walk...

Inquiry Presentation Preparation

I'm not good at public speaking ,so when the time came for the inquiry presentation, I started freaking out. To help me with the inquiry presentation  I watched a video and search up ways to improve my portion of the presentation. Then I practiced my part several times by the end I had memorized my part. Overall, the presentation went well, we got a good mark and I'm starting to feel less afraid each time I do a presentation.

Macbeth's Post Mortem Monologue

King Duncan:

You! You Macbeth! I trusted you! Why me? I tried to gave you more power so you could rise, I have never tried to bring you down. I gave you the role of thane of Cawdor. And what you do? Stab me in the back. Is this what I receive for helping you. Not only did you do the worst kind of treason by killing me, but blaming my poor, helpless guards and blaming my innocent sons for my murder. How dare you?! What did I ever do to you to deserve such betrayal? You make me sick! You think you can replace me. Me. This is amusing. You trying to replace me, a great and powerful king. Ha, you make me laugh. You can't even make your own decisions. You need help from an embarrassment that you suppose to call wife. She manipulated you into killing me and you let her. You are weak. We could have done so well together. I could have given you more power if you wanted. You were a good man. You let your vicious wife control you. Then you span out of control. You let your paranoia get the best of you. Which lead to the best ending.. This ending is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Loyal to his country, Macduff kills Macbeth, while that is happening his embarrassment kills herself. My favorite part is when Malcolm, my son, becomes king of Scotland. You deserved what happened to you in the end. No king will every trust a Macbeth every again.

Superstitions

There are many superstitions that exist today. Few are knocking on wood, break a mirror seven year bad luck, throw a pinch of salt over your shoulder and the famous Friday the 13th. The main reason people believe in superstitions is because at a young age our parents have taught us that some superstitions are bad luck. Such as black cats, only sneezing once before leaving and ladders. Even though there are scientifically proven evidence that some superstitions aren't bad luck. We still believe in them just because we were taught at a young age and now it 's like an habit.

Knocking on wood is done to get ride of evil spirits and undo something that was said to bring good luck or that could possibly tempt fate. Some believe this superstition began during the ancient pagan time. They believed the belief of spirits or deities lived in trees, and by knocking on the tree or simply touching it would acknowledge them and call upon them for protection from misfortune. Not only do they protect us from misfortune, but it was also a way to say thank you to the spirits or gods for bringing good fortune.

The Christian's believed that you should toss a pinch of salt over your left shoulder with your right hand where the devil is located to get rid of bad luck. This originated from the legend that the devil is always standing behind you, so throwing salt in his eye will distract him from causing trouble. Nowadays and historically, most people fear spilling salt because not only did it bring bad luck, it was also inviting the devil in. This superstition origin comes from the ancient times where they thought salt was used in rituals and practices. Many cultures believed salt was a powerful magical substance.

The superstition, breaking a mirror have seven year bad luck was originated by the Romans who first made glass mirrors. But long before the Romans, the Greeks believed if their reflections that hey saw in ponds, rivers, pools or bowls was distorted, disaster would be coming their way soon. The Greeks Chinese, African, Hebrews, Egyptians and Indian believed mirrors had the power to confiscate part of the user's soul. They thought if a mirror was broken, the person's soul would be trapped inside.

(13 minutes video clip explaining the superstition breaking a mirror getting seven years bad luck.)

The famous superstition, Friday the 13, is one of the well known superstition, it even has a word to describe the fear for Friday the 13: paraskevidekatriaphobia. The strong belief that the number 13 is evil and will bring bad luck that hotels, offices, apartment buildings etc. that they do not have or recognize a 13th floor, airports usually don't have a 13th gate and many people stay home on Friday the 13th.This superstition has so many theories of where it originated from. One of the theories are from Christianity and how Judas, who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th person to be seated in the Last Supper.

I Am Poem

Hey,
I'm not an adult
or a child
And I don't live alone
or eat junk food
or own everything
And I don't know everyone
Although I'm sure they are all very nice
I have friends
I speak English not text language
And I pronounce tomato not tomato
I can proudly say I'm a girl
Not a boy
Quiet not loud
And that the cinema is truly an exciting and carefree place
An acquaintance is a friend, a bed is comfort zone
And it is pronounced later not L8R, later
Teenagers are the most creative people
The ones who inspire the adults
And the emotional part of life
My name is Karen and I'm a teenager

Personality Profile

Overall the personalty quizzes were somewhat accurate. I love listening to and singing along to music even though I know I can't sing. I also can't dance but I love to dance in private and I have been playing the clarinet since grade 6. These things fall under the category of being Musical which I already knew I was. I didn't know I was logical but I can see why I have body movement as my third result of the first quiz. I don't consider myself being a judgmental person or being an extrovert because I'm not outgoing or that confident, I'm more of a shy person. I think it's a good thing to have a conscience,if we didn't we would allow the beast that is within all of us to come out turning us into savage people.(Just like in The Lord of the Flies) Neuroticism is a good word to describe me when there is public speaking or exams or even both are involved.

Multiple intelligences Test: Results
  • Musical: 3.86
  • Logical/Math: 3.86
  • Body Movement: 3.86

Jung and Meyers Briggs Personality Test: Results

Getting to know you

 Who I Am....

As a child I was shy, skeptical and frightened with the fact I wouldn't fit in. I moved schools a lot so fitting in was always a challenge. I was the type of person who was more of a follower than a leader. Once I came to high school, I found myself in the same predicament, until the end of grade 8, where one day I got tired of being in the shadows of people, being the odd one out, following people who clearly didn't want to be my friend. So I went my separate way made new friends who wanted to be with me and had more confidence, less doubtful of myself and less afraid of fitting in and stepping out of my comfort zone. Personality, likes and dislikes are three factors that describe who I am. I am a hardworking student who is passionate about music, movies, television series, books, traveling and sleeping. I'm open minded about trying new things. I HATE public speaking especially on topics that I don't find interesting. I'm horrible at drawing, singing, dancing, speaking and writing, but that doesn’t stop me from doing them. I dislike the fact that I have no idea what I want to do with me self, I'm impatient about my future. Who I will become is still unclear. In general, the person I will become would be more confident, open minded, free, etc. I will be surrounded with success, happiness and good friends. I would live either in London or New York. First I would graduate from high school then go to an university in Canada and get a bachelor degree ( don't know what my major will be yet). Overall, this is who I am.

About Me

My name is Karen! In my free time I love to watch movies, T.V. Series, read books and listen to music. I'm not picky about what genre I listen to, read about or watch, I like all types of genre. Each genre gives me a different experience. I have huge passion for baking. I like making cupcakes, cookies, cakes etc. I consider myself to be a very good baker as long as I have the recipe and the right ingredients. I would be completely lost if I was unable to do any of those things. One dream that I have is to travel the world and see all the amazing landmarks as well as try all off the incredible food. Three goals I set for myself for English 11 is to improve and expand my vocabulary, improve my writing and improve my public speaking skills.
